(By the way, I did not get run over by a tiny tractor. Those marks are from the elastic in my jammies.)
That's right. It's time again for the Portland Diabetes Expo and I lurv my insulin pump company so much that I will spend the whole day stumping for them at their booth.
And the lovely Audrey, who I saw at last night's Metroblogging Portland meetup, creator of a cool listing of food carts in Portland, told me that about a great site that lists places to eat near the convention center. So no peanut butter & jelly sandwich with apple slices for me! I'm going to Tiny's!
People that are considering getting an insulin pump really want to touch and to see what it is actually like. The last time I was at the event, I ended up pulling up my shirt all day long. So this time, I am smarter. I will put my site in a better place and I will not tuck in my shirt.
Wondering how large my insulin pump is? Here are some photos for a comparison:
My pump is smaller than this Annie Lennox CD:
My pump is smaller than this Splenda dispenser:
So, if you are at the Expo, please make sure to come to the Animas booth and come say Hello.
I will be the one lifting my shirt up.

wow. It's tiny!
that is so awesome that you do that. I wish you lived in my area so I could show some of the young diabetics I take care of in our ICU how easy it could be...
i'm not here. i'm asleep. i posted this before i went to sleep.
but in my sleep, this really puts it into perspective for me. teeeny tiny. dainty even.
you didn't see me i wasn't here. i was sleeping as i was ordered.
Oh, wow. I didn't know you had a pump. I've never seen one before...let alone how they work. Very ingenious and flashy. (no really, flash, get it? Flasher? HA. HA. HA. Alriiighty, then)
Wow! I didn't even know something like that existed. How cool! Does it make life much easier?
I just KNEW you were an exhibitionist!!!!
Really, though - that thing is sweet! I didn't even know you were diabetic! (Because, quite possibly, I suck!)
cami: Yeah, it is actually pretty small. But it often seems much bigger since I have to wear it pretty much 24/7.
mielikki: I wouldn't say it was easy. But it is easier. I'm sure if you called the pump company reps. they would dispatch some people to help you.
holly: You!! You!!! I cannot get that damn They Might Be Giants song out of my head now! And Martin doesn't know it, so I can't infect him. Grrrr.
emma: Yep. I do. Tell your friends!
groovy: Yes, it does. But unfortunately it is not a cure.
sybil: Well you probably do stink. But it isn't because of this. I'm not sure if I mentioned it before. It is however my most favorite personal electronic device. And yes, it does have a vibrate mode.
and it vibrates???!! The medical wonders never cease.
Lift your shirt for LIBERATION! My niece is a juvenile diabetic and her insulin pump was the. best. thing. She can be a normal teenager now and parents are no longer afraid to invite her for sleepovers. You are cool and so is Christin!
Portland seems to have a lot of expo/meetup/get togethers...
WOW .. amazing .. my sister still 'shoots up' .. which remark often makes servers in restaurants do a double take ..
I am going to send this over to my friend Oliver....will this work for straight needle diabetics?
cami: Yep, this version has a vibrate mode. You can also download ring tones (for the alarms).
leendalu: Oh, girl...your comment gave me goose bumps! Yay for Christin!
lilac: You have no idea! I have two more events to go to just next week. Portlanders really like to get together to have a beer and chat.
daryl: (Welcome) My brother used to get a big kick out of announcing to a room that I needed to shoot up.
Sadly, it is not a magic bullet but it does make things so much better. It is amazing to see one in action, which is why I am willing to pull up my shirt all day long tomorrow. Go give your sister a hug for being so strong!
meleah: Hey sweetie. I have Type 1 diabetes. My pancreas up and quit on me at age 14. I'm guessing that is what you mean Oliver has. Feel free to send him this link, but please do not nag him about it. That's just the worse. Their are all sorts of awesome sites on the net about pumps and if prodded, I am happy to answer more questions, or post more pics.
BTW, it took me 2 years to finally decide to go on a pump and if anyone tries to take it away from me I will kill them. Kill them!
Came here from Kimberly's blog - I'm amazed at how small the pump is.
Great to see so many familiar faces here in the comments section.
david: Hi David. I'm pretty sure you have visited before! But I guess you haven't been back in a long, long, time. :)
I had no idea that insulin pumps even existed!!! It's actually kind of cute, I think.
rima: Yes, yes the do. And they are damn sexy!
