At BarCamp, you can have the time of your life.

There I was, on day two of BarCamp Portland, eating dinner with Dawn Foster, Todd Kenefsky, Katherine Gray and this guy I call "my husband", when all of a sudden I felt a warm feeling behind me. I saw whispers of a ethereal light, a heavenly glowing light and when I turned around to see what it was, I saw this:

The Silicon Florist

AKA

Rick Turoczy. Noted blogger, doting husband and father, and lover of all things start-uppity in Portland.
(Photo stolen from Scott Kveton.)

And then. He spoke. "Well, hello, Missburrows, he said (with a slight Southern drawl) and how are you doing on this fine day?"

My heart was racing, my palms were sweaty (It was Rick Turoczy! Granted, not this Rick, but still!)

I opened my mouth, and said:

"I carried a watermelon."

He looked at me for a moment, then said, "Well, then you should probably put that in your Treasurelicious list, now shouldn't you."

I nodded my head.

Then I watched as he started to float away, leaving a trail of lightly scented rose petals behind in his footsteps.

*Warning: There is a slight chance that this did not actually happen, that I was hallucinating, so if you see Rick, please, please, (FOR THE LOVE OF GOD) do not ask him. Thank you.

that photo? Totally looks like it's out of an episode of Friends.

If Friends had been set in Portland with the cool people.

"I carried a watermelon" made me spit out coffee. All over my keyboard. It was caramel drizzle.

See? And here I thought the rose petal thing was a bit over the top.

But looking back, it's abundantly clear (to me, at least) that I could have worked a little harder to make a better impression.

@camikaos Thanks to the expression on my face, I was thinking more along the lines of "Next, on a very special episode of Friends...."

camikaos: Yeah, and I bet they would make the set all cold, so that we could see Rick's nipples (like they did with Jen A.)

greta: There is no shame in drinking coffee off of your keyboard, no shame at all *snicker*.

siliconflorist: The roses were not over the top, but the doves were (that is why I didn't mention them).

The watermelon comment did me in too.

Which I needed.

I can tell this is very exciting for you and I'm glad it happened even though I have no idea what it means.

However, I am annoyed that I fell for the RickRoll. I was totally hoping it would be a Rick Springfield video. *sigh*

I told Cami I can meet you guys this Saturday sometime...? Please advise. (I've already forgiven you for the wrong Rick).

meleah: No, never funny enough!

milton: Good. Everyone remembers the "no one puts baby in a corner" line, but the watermelon line means more to me. :)

stephanie: HA HA HA!!! Good to know I got at least one person! No one else with admit to it.

We will work out the scheduling via email. We are VERY excited.

you are hilarious! Now the people I work with think I'm a mad woman who giggles uncontrollably at her desk (ok they probably thought I was crazy before, but this just reinforces it) :-)

but why were you carrying a watermelon actually? do you usually carry watermelons?
